A 47-year-old Moulavi was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) on charges of using social media platform to air extremist views.
The suspect, a resident of Vavuniya was arrested on Saturday morning at the BIA on his arrival from Mecca after performing Umra.
It was reported that the suspect was a leader who organizes pilgrimage tours to Mecca.
The Moulavi was remanded till May 14 after being produced in the Negombo Magistrate’s Court.
