More showers and thunder showers are expected in the coming days as the low-pressure condition developing in the Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify, Department of Meteorology said yesterday.
The low-pressure area that has formed over the Southeast Bay of Bengal (2N-10N, 83E-93E) is expected to intensify further into a depression and is likely to move West-northwestwards towards the Eastern and Northern coast of Sri Lanka, the Met. Department said.
Showers or thundershowers exceeding 75 mm is expected to occur at times in the Eastern, Northern, North-Central and Uva Provinces and in the Hambantota District. “Showers or thundershowers will occur at a few places in the Central and Sabaragamuwa Provinces and in Kalutara, Galle and Matara Districts after 2.00 pm,” the forecast further said. Fishermen were cautioned to stay away from the sea while those who were already at sea were asked to return. Those in the hill country were asked to be vigilant of possible landslides.
