Sri Lankan High Commissioner-designate to India Milinda Moragoda, has reportedly held back his plan to reach the mission in New Delhi for duties due to the worsening of the pandemic situation there, informed sources said.
Earlier, Mr. Moragoda was planning to leave by the middle of this month. Delhi is among the ten states that account for 78.58 percent of COVID-19 cases in India. India is one of the worst affected countries in the world. The other Indian states hit by the coronavirus disease are Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Gujarat, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
According to the Indian media, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced on Monday, a lockdown in the city from 10 p.m. yesterday to 6 a.m. on April 26.
By yesterday morning, India reported 273,810 new Covid-19 cases.
Sri Lankan Foreign Secretary Prof. Jayanath Kolombage said the Sri Lankan High Commission in New Delhi functions despite the pandemic.
