The Labour Department is planning to introduce a new system to alert Employees Provident Fund (EPF) members about their monthly EPF balance via sms, the Commissioner of Labour (Enforcement Division) Thilanga Weerakkody said.
He told the Daily Mirror that after implementing the new system, people would be able to receive their available EPF balance instead of receiving the annual statement. “Employers should send the mobile numbers of EPF members to the Labour Department in order to facilitate this process,” Mr. Weerakkody said. He said before implementing the new system, the Act should be amended and sent to the legal draftsman.
