In a clear case of revenge, a mother of two, who was alleged to have had an illicit affair with the owner of a bakery, got acid thrown at her while she was having a cup of tea at a boutique in the Kaleliya area in Malnewa.

Later, it was found that the driver of the three-wheeler in which she travelled in had committed the crime along with his wife after taking on a contract given to them by the wife of the bakery owner who was a relative of theirs. It later came to light that the perpetrators of the crime had been paid
Rs. 30, 000 to carry out the contract.

The police took the three-wheeler driver along with his vehicle into custody.

The victim, who had worked at a bakery in Paththalagedara area, was badly injured in the incident and had been admitted to the Wathupitiwala Base Hospital.
