The Minuwangoda cluster has been brought under complete control, Army Commander Lt. Gen. Shavendra Silva said yesterday.
He said a total of 3,106 persons who have contracted the virus have been identified in the Minuwangoda cluster and that only 136 patients are receiving treatment in hospitals at the moment.
“When the second wave of Covid-19 started from Minuwangoda on October 4, we were able to limit it to 3,106 cases. The Minuwangoda cluster has now been brought under complete control,” he said.
The Commander said if any person was found infected with the virus now in Gampaha, they are connected to the Peliyagoda Fish Market cluster. He said that home quarantine was initiated considering issues of transporting patients of the Peliyagoda Fish Market cluster to quarantine centers.
Meanwhile, the Commander said that a total of 704 Covid-19 patients were reported on Sunday and that 541 patients were identified in the Colombo District. He said most of the patients were identified from the
Colombo Municipality.
The total number of COVID-19 positive cases reported from Minuwangoda and Peliyagoda Fish Market stands at 13,780 as of yesterday morning.
Accordingly, at least 30,000 persons of first and second contacts of COVID-19 positive cases are in self-quarantined.
