Leaders of political parties which represent Parliament have decided to allow media to cover proceedings subject to restrictions, Serjeant-at-Arms Narendra Fernando said yesterday.
Mr. Fernando said there will be restrictions imposed for the media personnel. “Only one journalist from one newspaper, radio or TV channel will be allowed to cover the proceedings on one sitting day. Another journalist from the same newspaper TV or radio channel can cover the proceedings on the second day. Two journalists can cover proceedings on an exchange basis,” Mr. Fernando said.
“Also journalists will be only be allowed to enter the press gallery, press room and the media canteen and will not be allowed to roam about within Parliamentary premises,” he added.
Meanwhile, the House is expected to debate the Penal Code Amendment Bill on Tuesday, January 5 according to Parliament sources.
