The Police yesterday recorded a statement from former Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage over his comment on match fixing in the 2011 World Cup final.
Police said a special investigation unit o n sports offences recorded the statement a t the former minister’s Nawalapitiya office a t 6.30 am yesterday. Earlier, Mr. Aluthgamage claimed that 2011 ICC World Cup final match between India and S r i Lanka was fixed.
Police said further investigations will be carried out after studying the statement. Meanwhile, the former minister said that he had submitted to the police a six-page document relevant to the statement he made over match-fixing. He said he was a spectator at the 2011 World Cup final match and that he felt suspicious while watching the match. “After I returned to Sri Lanka, people who came to meet me requested to conduct an investigation over the incident. I made a complaint to the ICC on October 30, 2011 in the capacity of Sports Minister,” he told media.
