The extension of the Marine Drive up-to Hill Street Dehiwala will be completed within 70 days, Minister of Highways Johnston Fernando said yesterday.
Minister Fernando said this after a tour he undertook to inspect the work on the Marine Drive.
He said this stretch will be of four lanes. “We will be spending a sum of Rs 228 million for the proposed new bridge along the road. The aim of our government is to ensure that the road will be of good quality and complete it as soon as possible,” the Minister said. “This will help ease the traffic between Ramakrishna Road and the Dehiwala Bridge,” he added.
Responding to a question raised by the journalists on the holding of provincial council elections, the Minister said the policy of the government is to hold elections on time. “However we will listen to the advice of Maha Sangha in this regard. We respect and listen to the monks as our government gives foremost place for Buddhism,” he said.
Also he said the policy of the government was to follow the advice of health authorities when it came to cremating those who succumbed to COVID- 19.
