A Police Constable attached to the Ministerial Security Division (MSD) was hospitalised after he was assaulted by the son of Puttalam District UNP MP, Shantha Sisira Kumara Abeysekara, Police Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekera said.

He said the PC was assaulted at the MP’s residence at Sedawatta in Chilaw on Saturday night and was admitted to the Chilaw Hospital.

The Constable said in the statement given to the police that the MP’s elder son who entered the rest room had allegedly assaulted with him a club.

However, according to a statement given by the MP who arrived at the police station soon after the incident, stated that the Constable had started a dispute with him. The Constable was injured when he fell after the MP’s elder son had pushed the Constable, according to the MP’s statement.

The Chilaw Police are investigating into the incident, the spokesman said.
