Justice Minister M.U.M. Ali Sabry appointed legal advisors and sector consultants to the five Cabinet sub-committees to reform and modernise the legal system of Sri Lanka, an official said.
The decision was taken at a meeting held on October 13.

The five sub-committees were appointed following the Cabinet memorandum submitted by the Minister setting out the major problems affecting the administration of justice in Sri Lanka and an action plan to address them within three years.

The Cabinet memo approved by the Cabinet provides for an overall strategy to address law’s delays through the appointment of the following five sub-committees: Infrastructure Development, Digitization and Court Automation, Criminal Law Reforms (Criminal Law), Civil Law Reforms and Commercial Law Reforms.

The sub-committees are headed by reputed Attorneys-at-Law specialized in their fields. The Cabinet has also approved a full time Secretariat with provisions for research officers, staff and any support necessary to achieve the ultimate objective of solving the issue of law’s delays in Sri Lanka within the targeted time frame.
