The Cabinet subcommittee which was appointed to look into the irregularities and discrepancies in the award of the LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) power project is yet to submit its final report. Initially, the Cabinet approved the tender to be awarded to a Chinese consortium. Later, there were issues as to why the tender was denied to the local company ‘Lakdhanavi Ltd’ despite it being the lowest bidder.
As a result, President Sirisena appointed a subcommittee to look into the transaction. Though the committee was required to report back to the Cabinet within a week, it had not done so. Meanwhile, The fundamental rights applications filed against these cases are to be heard in court today.
