Kurunegala Mayor Thushara Sanjeewa Witharana (SLPP) was yesterday remanded till September 17 by Kurunegala High Court Judge Menaka Wijesundara for not appearing in Court on July 25 when a case filed against him was taken up for hearing.
He and three others were accused of robbing a man after threatening him with a pistol. The Attorney General had named Mayor Witharana as the first accused in the case.
The counsel appearing for the mayor said his client could not be in Court on July 25 because he was attending a conference held in Seoul, South Korea.
Meanwhile, the mayor was remanded, when he appeared in Court till the next hearing date on September 17.
