A request has been made from the Treasury to provide funds as the media institutions such as Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC), Independent Television Network (ITN) and the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation are not a position to function properly without funds.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the income of these institutions had drastically reduced and they are not able to meet the expenditure required for the payment of salaries of the employees and for other essential expenditure.
Therefore, the Cabinet has given approval to a proposal made by the Minister of Mass Media and Information to obtain funds from the Treasury for recurrent expenditure required for these institutions for the period of four months: September to December 2020. The Cabinet of Ministers has decided that these institutions should prepare strategic plans for the increase of income and these plans should be implemented immediately with the approval of the Treasury.
