President Maithripala Sirisena said over the weekend that he was not ready to retire from politics and that he would open a new chapter after December.

The President said that he was in good health and would not retire in order to continue his agenda for the country and the people.

“Some people may be thinking that I will disappear since I haven’t said that I will contest at the Presidential Election,” he said speaking at an event in Polonnaruwa on Saturday.
The President said a new phase of the country’s development programme as well as the Polonnaruwa Development would be launched next December.

The ceremony was held to mark the opening of the Polonnaruwa Isipathana Welfare Society’s Community Hall.

The President also vested the OPD and a clinical and administrative building constructed at the Welikanda Regional Hospital at a cost of Rs.213 million with the public.
