Parliamentarian Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe said the Hulftsdorp court complex in Colombo was in a dilapidated condition and that it had put the lives of thousands of innocent people in danger.
In a letter addressed to Justice Minister Thalatha Athukorala, he said the Colombo Magistrate and District Court buildings were at the risk of collapsing thus putting the lives of thousands of people in jeopardy.
“It is of paramount importance to commence forthwith the construction of a new court complex. Relevant government authorities including the Justice Minister should be held responsible if the court complex collapses. It is a public matter that the Finance Ministry is not allocating funds for projects of national interest like this whereas it allocates billions of rupees for useless initiatives,” he said.
He urged the government not to await another catastrophe just like it did till the Kolonnawa garbage heap collapsed.
