Four suspects have been arrested by the Navy when they attempted to smuggle in more than one kilogramme of Crystal Methamphetamine (Ice) by sea routes during a special operation carried out in the beach area of Urumalai in Talaimannar, a statement from the Navy said.
The street value of the seized narcotics is believed to be around Rs. 6 million.
The navy said that the drugs had been brought into the country in a trawler. The substance had been in a package concealed in a fishing net.
The suspects aged between 23 and 33 were identified as residents of Urumalai. The suspects together with narcotics and the boat were handed over to the Talaimannar Police for further action.
Sri Lanka Navy continues to thwart wide-ranging illegal activities including smuggling of narcotics, taking place via sea routes, the navy said.
