A former Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) Provincial Council (PC) member was arrested with eight communication signal jammers in Negombo yesterday, Police Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekera said.
They said the suspect, a resident of Negombo, was arrested following a search operation carried out by the STF and the Negombo Police at his residence at Periyamulla, Negombo.
It is illegal to be in possession of or use signal jamming devices such as these, police said.
Meanwhile, the security personnel yesterday carried out a 3-hour search operation at a commercial complex in Dematagoda.
SP Gunasekera said STF, army, police, with the assistance of sniffer dogs were involved in the search operation but no suspicious items were found.
