Formation of DNA deferred till presidential election is over

• UNP will be the dominant party of the DNA

The registration of the Democratic National Alliance (DNA) under the leadership of the United National Party (UNP) has been postponed until after the Presidential Election to be concluded on November 16, Daily Mirror learns.   

However, these parties will stick together for the time being under the ‘swan’ symbol in view of the Presidential Election. The leaders of the political parties that support UNP nominee for presidential candidacy Sajith Premadasa met with Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday and discussed the formation of the DNA and other matters related to electioneering.   
The UNP will be the dominant party of the DNA. Besides, it will comprise  parties such as Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) led by Minister Rauff Hakeem, All Ceylon Makkal Congress (ACMC) led by Rishad Bathiudeen, Tamil Progressive Alliance (TPA) led by Mano Ganesan and Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) led by Patali Champika Ranawaka.   
Along with Mr. Wickremesinghe, the party leaders such as Mr Bathiudeen, Mr Ganesan and Mr Ranawaka attended.

   
At this meeting, an action plan was worked out to spearhead the campaign of Mr Premadasa. Separate committees have been appointed to look into various aspects of his campaign, such as media handling, the formulation of a manifesto and campaign financing.   

Besides, the main campaign office of Mr Premadasa will be opened today at Vauxhall Street, Colombo 2.
