A stock of 1,989 kilos of turmeric smuggled into the country was seized in transit and five suspects arrested by the Army during a raid at Iluppakadavai in Mannar. Army personnel of the 54 Brigade in Mannar had on suspicion checked a double cab at a road check point on A-32 highway to find the stock of turmeric.
Investigations revealed that the suspects had been transporting the stock of turmeric from Jaffna to Mannar under the pretext of transporting paddy. The suspects and the stock of contraband were handed over to Iluppakadavai Police for further action.
