The National Police Commission (NPC) has requested the Acting IGP to nominate a female Police Officer to the post of Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) for the first time in the history of the Sri Lanka Police.
NPC Secretary Nishantha Weerasinghe told Daily Mirror that they were yet to receive the nominated name from the Acting IGP.
It was reported that SSP Bimsani Jasinghaarachchi attached to the Child and Women Bureau of the Department of Police has been reportedly selected as the senior most female Police officer from among the nominated names.
SSP Premila Dhiwakara was the first female officer to hold a high post in the Department of Police. She was the first female officer to join the Police service and retired while holding the post of SSP.
