A 32-year-old woman who was driving a three-wheeler along with her 60-year-old father died when a car driven by a doctor crashed on to them last morning near the ‘Sudu Palama’ in Srawasthipura area, Anuradhapura Police said.
The victims had been identified as Samarathunga Mudiyanselage Athavuda Gedara Ranbanda and his daughter Samarathunga Mudiyanselage Athavuda Gedara Neranjala Priyadharshani, who were residents of Victoria Pedesa, Thalawa.
The three-wheeler was heading towards Thalawa from Anuradhapura and the car was approaching from the opposite direction had collided head-on.
The wounded had died after admission to the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital, police said.
The driver of the car, a doctor attached to the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital was taken into custody and was to be produced in courts.
Anuradhapura Police Traffic OIC Senaka Makundewa and a team is conducting further investigations.
