The government will sign a MoU with India to receive a cash grant of Rs.752 million (INR 300 million) for the expansion of the Jaffna International Airport, Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga said yesterday.
The Minister told Indian High Commissioner Gopal Baglay that he would submit the Cabinet paper in this regard within the next couple of weeks and that the MoU had been drafted at the present time.
The airport remained under the control of the air force during the war time. India had agreed to extend a cash grant for the expansion project. It will include the construction of arrival and departure terminals of the airport.
The Jaffna International Airport is to be used for the promotion of tourism between the two countries.
