Heshan Nayanajith and two other petitioners who are voters and residents within the Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha limits yesterday filed a fundamental rights petition seeking the Supreme Court to cancel the decision of the Election Commission to hold PS elections.
They cited the EC Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya and the members of the Commission and the Returning Officer in charge of the Elpitiya PS election as respondents.
The petitioners claim that the date of elections has been fixed without holding a meeting of the EC and that it is unconstitutional to hold the election again based on the nominations called in 2017.
