The Eksath Jathika Bhikkhu Peramuna (EJBP) affiliated to the UNP will hand over a petition to party seniors requesting them to avoid any split within the party.
EJBP General Secretary Venerable Thiniyawala Palitha Thera said it would hand over the petition to party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe, opposition leader Sajith Premadasa and Speaker Karu Jayasuriya without delay. “We will officially request the three leaders to iron out their differences and get along for the sake of the party. The UNP can win over Buddhist votes and those of the middle-class and remote hamlets if Mr. Wickremesinghe, Mr. Premadasa and Mr. Jayasuriya set aside their differences to face the general elections. The UNP can muster a fair number of seats in Parliament if unity is established,” the Ven. Thera said.
