Says will attend Covid meetings while holding his current post
Minister of Health Pavithra Wanniarachchi said that former Director General of Health Services Dr. Anil Jasinghe would participate in future Covid-19 prevention committee meetings.
The Minister made these comments in Parliament today, in response to a question raised by the opposition MPs.
The former Director General of Health Services Dr. Anil Jasinghe was recently appointed as the Secretary to the Ministry of Environment.
She also said that Dr. Jasinghe was promoted as the Secretary to the Ministry of Environment after he stepped down as Director General of Health Services.
“While holding the current post he will be attending future meetings on the coronavirus, held by the Health Ministry,” she informed Parliament.
Earlier, the decision to remove Dr. Jasinghe as the DG of Health was heavily criticised by many individuals mainly on social media. With Dr. Jasinghe’s departure, many pointed fingers at authorities for failing to avert the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, stating one of the main reasons being the removal of Dr. Jasinghe.
