A committee appointed by the Attorney General (AG) had recommended the Public Service Commission to conduct a disciplinary inquiry against Deputy Solicitor General (DSG) Azard Navavi and State Counsel Malik Aziz.
The inquiry is to be conducted on their failure to provide legal advice to the file submitted by the Terrorism Investigation Division (TID) on Zahran Hashim and National Thowheed Jamaat (NTJ) in 2017, it was yesterday informed at the PCoI probing Easter Sunday attacks.
Testifying before the Commission, head of the Administration Unit of the AG Department ASG Sumathi Dharmawardena said that although the recommendations were sent to the Public Service Commission on November 27, 2019, the Commission had not sent any acknowledgement yet. ASG Dharmawardena said that he had previously given statements regarding the file sent by the TID in 2017 at the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC).
“I had brought the final report of the PSC to the attention of AG on February 24, 2020 and the AG had instructed that preliminary inquiry be held a on State Counsel Malik Aziz and DSG Azard Navavi,” he said.
