The driving licence of Sri Lanka Test cricket captain Dimuth Karunaratne, who was charged with drunk driving accident, had been temporally suspended by the Colombo Traffic Court Magistrate yesterday.
Magistrate Saliya Channa Abeyratne granted bail to Dimuth Karunaratne on two sureties of Rs.100,000 each. Dimuth Karunaratne was arrested on Sunday morning after a car he was driving on collided with a three-wheeler at Kynsey Road in Borella. The three-wheeler driver was injured and admitted to the Colombo National Hospital. The Borella Police said the cricketer was under the influence of liquor at the time of the accident. However, he was released on police bail on Sunday and produced in the court yesterday. The magistrate ordered to direct the cricketer for a medical test at the National Transport Medical Institute in Nugegoda.
Police informed the court that the complainant informed them that he does not intend to proceed with the case any longer.
Attorney-at-law appearing on behalf of Dimuth Karunaratne informed the court that his client is willing to purchase a new three-wheeler for the victim if the three-wheeler which involved in the accident has damaged.
The case would be taken for next hearing on May 2.
