The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) yesterday informed the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court that it was uncovered that suspect Fazal Mohammed Nisaar, the businessman who was currently detained, handled a communication network without authorisation of the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission and kept up links with the people connected to the Easter Sunday coordinated terror attack.
When the case was taken up before Colombo Chief Magistrate Mohammed Mihal the CID informed that the suspect had maintained links with 494 individuals through the above mentioned network including a Muslim politician. The CID further informed the Magistrate there were several difficulties to conduct the inquiry since most of the contacts in the above mentioned network were set up without revealing their identities. Fazal Mohammed Nisaar was arrested by the CID on January 11 and ordered to be detained for three months for interrogation. Within a short period the suspect had made transactions amounting to Rs. 60 million through his bank account and the suspect had spent more than Rs. 300,000 per month. The CID also informed the Magistrate that according to investigations the suspect had been directly involved in several controversial incidents which occurred in the country.
