Questions have been raised with regard to continuous issuing of parking tickets in the Colombo City by a private company despite the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) passing a resolution to terminate the contract of this company.
SLPP Member of CMC Sharmila Gonawala told Daily Mirror that the particular company was continuing to issue parking tickets despite the resolution passed by the CMC to terminate the contract.
“ I inquired from the relevant officers from the CMC and they informed me that a notice will be sent to this company shortly. A high- ranking officer from the CMC who is a senior Engineer informed me that the council will comply with the rule of notifying the company within seven days of the passing of the resolution from the Municipal Council,” she added.
Meanwhile JVP member of the council Hemantha Kumara said the contract was terminated as the company failed pay millions which were due to CMC. “ We warned the council that there will be negative consequences of private sector being involved in the activities of the council. What we said has been proved today,” he said. The Daily Mirror reliably learns that the CMC has decided to hand over the task of issuing parking tickets to its own employees accordingly.
