The Police Marine Division has launched a special operation last evening in the Kelani River from Modara to Hanwella to trace the severed head of the woman, who was murdered at a guest house in Hanwella by a Police Sub Inspector, who ultimately committed suicide.
The suspect had severed the head of the victim and stuffed the headless body in a suitcase and left it at Dam Street. However, the police had neither found the head of the woman nor her bag.
Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said the guest house is in the vicinity of the Kelani River and the investigators suspect the perpetrator might have thrown the head of the woman along with her bag into the river.
Meanwhile, he said the DNA samples have been taken from the woman’s mother and relatives to identify the body.
The decapitated body of the 30-year-old victim from Kuruwita was found stuffed in a bag and left at Dam Street on March 1.
