Colombo Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne ordered Minister Ravi Karunanayake to appear before the CID within two weeks to provide further statements with regard to the inquiry conducted against him over giving a false testimony before the Bond Commission on August 2, 2017.
The Court also directed the prosecution to send notices of the order to the Minister accordingly.
The Attorney General’s Department yesterday informed Court that the Minister had earlier appeared before the CID on July 7, 2019 and provided statements.
However, the CID could not complete the recording of statement entirely. Subsequently, the CID had requested the Minister to appear before it to complete the recording of statement. But it was said that the Minister had so far failed to provide the rest of the statements resulting in causing inconvenience for the prosecution to conclude the investigation with regard to the case.
Considering the request of the prosecution, the Chief Magistrate issued the order.
The case will be taken up again on November 21, 2019.
