Country still reports asymptomatic cases: Epidemiology Chief

People will have to act in a more responsible manner to prevent a third wave

Responding to comments that the country currently reports symptomatic patients of COVID-19 more than asymptomatic cases, Chief Epidemiologist Dr. Sudath Samaraweera said most patients are still asymptomatic . 

  He told the Daily Mirror that they had not observed such a change where many symptomatic cases being detected in the country except for a few cases and added the majority of cases were still asymptomatic.   

“We are monitoring these changes very closely. As of now, most of the cases that are reported to us are asymptomatic cases, “ Dr Samaraweera said.   Meanwhile, he said as the COVID situation was getting worse, it was much important to strictly follow health guidelines and restrict unnecessary movement. “We saw how people acted during the festive season. It was not satisfactory. Consequently, we are witnessing the repercussions. Hence, people will have to act in a more responsible manner if we are to prevent a third wave of COIVD-19,” he added.
