Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) yesterday urged the government to postpone the debate on the controversial Port City Economic Commission Bill and other political activities and give priority to controlling the COVID-19 pandemic.
SJB MP Harshana Rajakaruna who made this request on behalf of his party at a press conference urged the government to postpone the debate and to listen to the health experts who had recommended an countrywide lockdown.
“We would request the government to postpone the debate on the Port City Commission Bill and take it up later after entertaining the ideas of the opposition on the proposed legislation. As we understand, House sessions have been confined to two days this week namely Tuesday and Wednesday. We wonder whether COVID is only spread on Thursdays and Fridays,” the MP said.
“We also urge the government to go for a countrywide lockdown as recommended by the health authorities. As we understand the health authorities have recommended a lockdown and the political leadership has dismissed it.
