Attorney General Dappula de Livera yesterday directed the IGP to conduct investigations into the importation of several swords, daggers and other such weapons into the country, AG’s Coordinating Officer Nishara Jayaratne said.
She said the AG made this direction to the IGP, in relation to the Writ Application filed by Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith.
The probe should focus on the swords and other said weapons, which were imported before and after the Easter Sunday attacks.
The AG has also advised the IGP to deal with the suspects responsible for keeping such weapons in possession, importing and distributing them, according to the law.
Accordingly, the AG directed the IGP to compile a full report on the relevant matter and submit it to him before March 26.
