Sri Lanka Podujana Peremuna (SLPP) yesterday demanded a public apology from Industries Minister Wimal Weerawansa who is the leader of the National Freedom Front(NFF) for calling for replacement of the SLPP leadership with President Gotabaya Rajapaksa in place of present leader Prime Minister
Mahinda Rajapaksa.
SLPP General Secretary Sagara Kariyawasam said yesterday Minister Weerawansa had made a comment to a local weekend newspaper that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa should be the SLPP chairman replacing the
Prime Minister.
Kariyawasam told a news briefing that Minister Weerawansa had no right to make statements with relevance to matters of the SLPP. “Thus, he should immediately withdraw his statement and apologise to the public,”
Kariyawasam added.
“We feel sad to note this kind of a statement from a fellow party leader of our alliance,” he said.
