Former Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka who supported presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa said that the UNP parliamentary group should be given the chance to select the opposition leader of Parliament through a ballot.

Mr. Ranawaka told Daily Mirror that the MPs should be given the opportunity to select the opposition leader through democratic means.

He said the government should step down forthwith.
