Charges served on Gnanasara Thera

The Police Organized Crime Prevention Division (POCPD) yesterday charged Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) General Secretary the Ven. Galagodaaththe Gnanasara Thera at the Colombo Magistrate’s Court for obstructing a police officer from performing his duties at Welikada.   

President’s counsel Thirantha Walaliyadda appearing with attorney R.A.P. Ranawake for the suspect, objected to charges being framed against his client. He informed court that he would raise preliminary objections and move to get his client discharged without proceeding with the case since the charge sheet was erroneous and bad in law.   
Colombo Additional Magistrate Lochana Abeywicrama postponed the case for June 7.   

The monk was arrested in June 2017 and released on bail after being produced in the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court on charges of obstructing a police officer and unlawful assembly.
