An investigation has been commenced against a senior officer of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) in connection with a theft of lubricant oil worth of Rs. 40 million from the CPC stores, a senior spokesman of the corporation said.
Already another inquiry is underway against this official and another official over a fraudulent sale of 75,000 Barrels of Tar belonging to the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation. It is alleged that the the official had sold tar at a low price incurring a loss of Rs. 358 million to the Corporation. It is learnt that this official had been given 10 increments at once in order to give him a promotion.
The spokesman said that plans are underway to hold a summary inquiry which would be concluded within a day instead of holding a proper investigation in connection with the tar fraud.
