COVID-19 cases in Colombo surpass 10,000

The total COVID-19 cases in the Colombo District from the Minuwangoda and Peliyagoda clusters yesterday surpassed 10,000 with 402 patients identified from Colombo on Wednesday.  Accordingly, the total number of COVID-19 cases identified from Minuwangoda-Peliyagoda cluster increased to 21,857 as of last morning since October 4.  

Among 402 patients identified in Colombo, 103 cases were reported from Borella while 42 cases reported in Wellawatte.  


The total number of COVID-19 positive cases reported from Minuwangoda and Peliyagoda Fish Market cluster stands at 21,857 as of Wednesday. Of them, 3,059 were from the Minuwangoda cluster and all other 18,798 were from the Peliyagoda Fish Market cluster.   


As of yesterday morning, a total of 25,410 persons have been confirmed COVID-19 positive from all over the country, including the deceased. 19,032 fully-recovered COVID-19 patients have been so far discharged from hospitals and the rest numbering 6,254 are still under treatment in hospitals and care centres.

Covid-19 death toll mounts to 129

Five more Covid-19 related deaths were reported yesterday bringing the death toll to 129, the Department of Government Information said.   

Accordingly, four males aged 89, 85, 71, 78 and a female aged 56 were among the deceased.   
The victims were residents of Kolonnawa and Colombo.  


Four of the deceased individuals succumbed to the virus at the National Hospital Colombo while the 71-year-old male had passed away at his residence.   


All victims were suffering from chronic diseases like diabetes, heart diseases and high blood pressure which had been aggravated by being infected with  Covid-19.
