COVID-19: Four more fully cured patients discharged from NIID

  • Two new positive cases were repoted by 7.00 pm last night

Four more COVID-19 infected patients recovered fully from the viral infection were discharged yesterday from the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID) at Angoda, bringing the total number of patients fully recovered to 7 Sri Lankans and one Chinese woman, Director NIID, Dr. Eranga Narangoda said yesterday.    

Meanwhile, two fresh COVID-19 positive cases were reported around 7.00 pm yesterday (Thursday) bringing the total number of infected to 104.


Dr. Narangoda told Daily Mirror that two more COVID-19 victims were transferred to the ICU with critical condition yesterday bringing the number of patients at the ICU to four at the NIID and added a total of 100 COVID 19 patients were in medical care at the country’s premier infections disease hospital.   


By the time of this edition went to press yesterday, there were no new COVID 19 infections reported from Sri Lanka.   


Meanwhile, a group of another 223 Sri Lankans was released yesterday after they were subjected to a 14-day quarantine spell on their return from abroad, run by the Sri Lanka Army in various parts of the country.   
 Meanwhile, a total of 247 Sri Lankans and 5 foreign nationals were under medical observation for possible viral infection at various hospitals in the country, namely 100 Sri Lankans and 2 foreigner at the NIID, Angoda, 8 Sri Lankans at District Hospital, Polonnaruwa, and 13 Sri Lankans 6 at National Hospital Colombo, 2 foreigners and 12 Sri Lankans at the Teaching Hospital, Ragama 8 at District Hospital, Negombo, 8 at the Teaching Hospital, Kurunegala and 2 at Teaching Hospital, Ratnapura, 2 at National Hospital Kandy, 5 at Teaching Hospital, Karapitiya, Galle, two each at Teaching Hospital, Batticaloa, District Hospital, Badulla and Chest Hospital, Welisara. 25 at District Hospital, Welikanda, 27 at District Hospital Homagama, 8 at District Hospital Kalutara, 3 at Neville Fernando Teaching Hospital Malabe and one each at District Hospital Mulleriyawa and Teaching 
Hospital Anuradhapura. In the global scene, there were 472, 882 confirmed cases of COVID 19 infections by late afternoon yesterday with 21,308 deaths in 198 countries. 

 
 In mainland China, 81,285 patients were admitted to hospitals with coronavirus infections by yesterday and the number of deaths had risen to 3,287 while 7,4051 had recovered and released from hospitals. While, China successfully controlled the deadly viral infection, the disease had spread fast in the US, Iran and in the EU. By yesterday, in the worst hit Italy, the number of COVID-19 related deaths rose to an alarming 7,503 while confirmed infections rose to 74,386 with 9,362 recovered. In Spain, 49,515 were under treatment with 3,647 reported dead.
