A suspect had been arrested with 23kg of heroin which had a street value of over Rs.230 million during a raid carried out by the Meegahawatta Police at Samadhi Mawatha in Sapugaskanda yesterday.
It was revealed that the arrested suspect was a brother of a police constable attached to the Colombo Crimes Division. Police are investigating to arrest the officer as well who is suspected of being involved in heroin trafficking. Police said the arrested suspect, a 37-year-old resident of Sapugaskanda had been running a carpentry workshop in the area.
Meanwhile, Dinesha Sandamali alias ‘Thotalanga Kudu Sanda’ was arrested over drug trafficking charges by the Welikada Police on the new Kolonnawa Road in Rajagiriya. Police said the woman was arrested using an undercover agent. Following the interrogation, the police recovered 25 grammes of heroin at a house at Methsanda Sevana housing complex in Thotalanga. Investigation revealed that the 36-year-old woman had been involved in drug trafficking for some time and that she was capable of delivering any amount of heroin to buyers anywhere. Police had also seized several ATM cards and mobile phones in her possession.
