The remarks made by State Minister Ranjan Ramanayake about some Buddhist monks were vehemently deplored by Minister of Buddha Sasana Gamini Jayawickrama Perera at a media briefing held in Polonnaruwa on Tuesday.
The Minister said Ranjan Ramanayake, being a non-Buddhist parliamentarian should have been more mindful of his utterances and was greatly disturbed by such inappropriate remarks. He took immediate steps to make Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe aware of it. He said the Premier has promised to call for written explanation from Mr. Ramanayake. He said that the UNP, as a party maintains high discipline and is built on the principles of respect for each others’, religions and communities.
