Ajith says he did not receive notice
By Kelum Bandara
The United National Party (UNP) has decided to institute disciplinary action against two of its MPs – Non-Cabinet Minister of Digital Infrastructure and Information Technology Ajith Perera and Non-Cabinet Minister of Science, Technology and Research Sujeewa Senasinghe – for making certain remarks in breach of party discipline, Daily Mirror learns.
According to informed sources, the party noticed these two ministers to appear before General-Secretary of Education and Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam as well as Legal Secretary Nissanka Nanayakkara at 11.00 a.m. at the party headquarters in Sirikotha for preliminary inquiries.
UNP sources said there were complaints against the duo for criticising the party, its leadership and policies.
These two ministers are in the forefront of agitating for presidential candidacy to Housing and Construction Minister Sajith Premadasa. They addressed public rallies in recent times.
However, Mr. Perera said he had not received any such notice. “This is yet another false information being spread,” he said. Mr. Senasinghe could not be contacted for comments.
