Attorney General (AG) Dappula de Livera yesterday advised officials who were involved in controlling the blaze aboard the crude oil tanker, MT New Diamond, to prepare a report regarding the damages caused to the Sri Lankan government, including expenses incurred due to the incident.
In a three hour meeting held with the officials, the AG had directed them to review and provide advices on issues arising because of the fire.
Releasing a statement AG’s Coordinating Secretary, State Counsel Nishara Jayaratne said that the AG had advised the officials to check the quality of the environment in the particular area.
The AG had the meeting with the Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority, Director General of Merchant Shipping & Chairman of the Marine Environment Protection Authority. The tanker was transporting 270,000 metric tons of crude oil from the port of Mina Al Ahmadi.
