The investigation into the Shangri-La Hotel in Colombo, which allowed to hold a birthday celebration for event organiser Chandimal Jayasinghe and model Piumi Hansamali when island-wide travel restrictions were in place, had been handed over to the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD).
Earlier, the Fort Police arrested several persons including Chandimal Jayasinghe and Piumi Hansamali for holding the birthday party by violating quarantine regulations.
Following the incident, the Fort Police also launched an investigation against the management of the hotel for allowing it to host the birthday party.
Accordingly, the Fort Police had recorded several statements from the management of the hotel.
However, the Police Headquarters had taken steps to handover the investigation to the CCD.
Fifteen people who had participated in the party in violation of quarantine rules have been released on bail after being produced in court. However, they were later placed under quarantine at a Quarantine Centre in Passara.
