Several traders and their employees in the Bazaar Street in Vavuniya had been identified as infected with the coronavirus. Vavuniya SSP Tissa Lal De Silva said 55 infected traders and employees in shops were identified and that steps were taken to shut down the area with immediate effect.
He said the Bazaar Street, Dharmalingam Street and Market Street had been closed temporarily and 165 individuals including traders and their employees were subjected to PCR tests to find 55 of them were affected. The reports of the PCR tests had been received last morning.
Health authorities of the area with the help of the Police and the Army isolated Bazaar street and ordered the immediate closure of all shops and boutiques. They created public awareness on the possible spread of the virus and warned customers who had dealings with the traders to take precautions and inform immediately to the Police or the PHIs, if they developed any illness.
PHIs said steps were being taken to identify individuals who had dealings with the infected traders and to subject them to PCR tests.
