Nuwara Eliya District Corona Prevention Committee today requested the public not to engage in pilgrimage to Sri Pada (Adam’s Peak) during January, Nuwara Eliya District Secretary M.B.R. Pushpakumara said.
He said the request was made considering the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic situation in some estates in the Hatton area. Travel restrictions were also imposed in some areas by the respective area health officials and other authorities, he said. Taking the current situation into consideration, people can still engage in pilgrimage adhering to necessary health guidelines and obtaining prior approvals.
However, the danger of getting infected by COVID-19 will not go away, even if the people undertake pilgrimage visits obtaining proper approvals, the District Corona Prevention Committee said.
