Attempt to smuggle 1.45 kg of Ice Two suspects arrested at BIA

Two men were arrested by the Police Narcotic Bureau (PNB) at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) when attempting to smuggle 1.45 kilos of methamphetamine (Ice) into the country, Police said yesterday.

They said, initially 33-year-old suspect identified as Maharoof Mohammed Waseem, a resident of Katugastota, was arrested when attempting to smuggle the methamphetamine from Chennai while the other a 24-year-old suspect identified as Mohammed Thameer, a resident of Matale, was arrested when he arrived at the BIA to pick up the first suspect.   
The suspects were produced in the Negombo Magistrate’s Court and detained for seven days for questioning, which had revealed the details concerning the brains behind the smuggling racket.   


He is reported to be a businessman residing in Matale.
