JVP Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake, who was announced as the presidential candidate of the National People’s Power headed by the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna, said yesterday no extremist or racist could ensure public security and said it could be ensured only by creating national harmony.

Speaking at the mass rally organized by the National People’s Power which consists of 28 political parties, civil society groups and intellectuals at the Galle Face Green, he said stable public security could be guaranteed only by creating national harmony and assured to ensure long lasting public security.

“Pubic security had been a hot topic at present. No extremist or racist can ensure public security. They can only increase barricades near schools, hospitals and boundaries of Sinhala and Muslim villages. Public security can be guaranteed only by creating national harmony where everyone’s identity, language, religion and traditions were respected. We will assure you that we will ensure a lasting public security,” he said.

Mr. Dissanayake said there are two paths for the people to select from at this presidential election including the path of prosperity which would guarantee freedom and happiness and the other path would bring destruction to the masses.

“We will invite everyone to rally round the prosperous path which can guarantee freedom and happiness,” he said.

“I have been engaged in politics for thirty years where I have faced numerous hardships, challenges, victories and defeats. I am well aware of aspirations, needs and feelings of people of all walks of life,” he added.

Mr. Dissanayake said this was a struggle which should culminate with a victory and added that he was committed to finish it victoriously.

He said there was discussion for a new political force in the country and added that such a force should consists of three elements including non-corrupt politics, intellectuals who committed to develop this country and people who wish to work for such a goal.

“National People’s Power is organized based on these concepts. The country is overwhelmed with a corrupt political field. We assure you that we will create an honest, people friendly political environment,” he said.
